Owning a Therapure TPP air purifier has many benefits, one of them being the permanent HEPA-type filter!
There’s no need to spend money on replacement filters when you can simply clean and reuse the filter already included! Saving money while cutting down on plastic consumption is a great feeling.
The only thing that Therapure asks when it comes to the permanent HEPA-type filter is that you clean it periodically.
That’s what I’m here to help you with! This is a complete cleaning guide for every Therapure TPP air purifier available right now. Starting from the TPP50 and finishing at the TPP640, I’ll be going over every model and how to clean the Therapure filter inside of it.
Cleaning a Therapure filter is typically the same process across all models, but I’ll still cover each model individually in case there are any differences!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Regardless of the model, be sure to turn off & unplug your Therapure air purifier before removing anything.
You can use the table of contents section below to skip to your model.

How To Clean Therapure TPP50 Filter
Because it’s plugged into an outlet, the cleaning process of the TPP50 is a little different compared to the other Therapure models. (Don’t worry, it’s still very easy!)

- Remove the TPP50 air purifier from the wall outlet.
- Remove the two collector blades from the bottom of the air purifier.
- Wipe the blades down with a dry soft cloth or paper towel.
- Slide the collection blades back in.
- Plug your TPP50 into the wall outlet and enjoy!
If you used a wet cloth while cleaning the collector blades, let the collector blades sit out for 24 hours before reinserting them back into the TPP50. Never insert wet/damp collector blades into the TPP50.
How Often Should I Clean the Therapure TPP50 Filter?
The collector blades for the TPP50 mini should be cleaned at least every 2 weeks. You may want to clean them more frequently if you find the air in that area to be dirtier.
How To Clean Therapure TPP100 Filter
Due to its shape, the TPP100 also has a slightly different cleaning process compared to the other TPP models.
- At the bottom of the unit, unscrew the
Filter Lock Mechanism by turning it counter-clockwise.
- Remove the inlet grill from the unit. (Inside you should find the HEPA-type filter)
- Remove the HEPA-type filter from the inlet grill.
- Using a vacuum with a brush or crevice attachment, clean both the inlet and outlet sides of the filter. (Try and get between the cracks as much as you can!)
- Insert the HEPA-type filter back into the inlet grill.
- Put the inlet grill (with HEPA-type filter) back onto the Filter Lock Mechanism.
- Reinsert the Filter Lock Mechanism with the grill & filter back into the TPP100 through the bottom of the unit.
It’s important to note that with the TPP100 you shouldn’t use a wet/damp soft cloth at all. No water should be used when cleaning the TPP100 filter as it can damage the permanent HEPA-type filter.
How Often Should I Clean the Therapure TPP100 Filter?
The permanent HEPA-type filter for the TPP100 should be cleaned at least once every month. Consider cleaning it more frequently if the area contains a high amount of airborne particles.
How To Clean Therapure TPP220 & TPP230H Filter
From the TPP220 onwards you’ll typically find the cleaning process for these Therapure filters to be generally the same. I’ve included the TPP230H in this one because it’s exactly the same process as it is with the TPP220.
- T
ake the inlet grill off the front of the air purifier by pressing down on the locking latch located at the top of the grill.
- Grabbing the indents on the right and left sides of the filter’s frame, remove the permanent HEPA-type filter.
- Using a vacuum with a brush or crevice attachment, clean both the inlet and outlet sides of the filter. (Remember to get between the cracks as much as you can!)
- Reinsert the permanent HEPA-type filter back into the TPP220.
- Vacuum and/or wipe down the inlet grill with a wet cloth, let dry. (Optional)
- Reinsert the inlet grill into the TPP220, making sure the locking latch clicks back into place.
How Often Should I Clean the Therapure TPP220/TPP230H Filter?
The permanent HEPA-type filter in the TPP220 & TPP230H should be cleaned at least once a month. You may want to clean it more often if the area contains a high amount of airborne particles.
How To Clean Therapure TPP240, TPP440, TPP540, TPP640 Filter
These 4 models all share the exact same filter removal & cleaning process so I decided to batch them up into one. Below are the steps for cleaning the permanent HEPA-type filter on these models.
- Remove t
he inlet grill from the air purifier by pressing down on the locking latch located on the top of the grill.
- Grabbing the indents on the right and left sides of the filter’s frame, remove the permanent HEPA-type filter.

Due to new features on certain models, below I’ve included any other things you’ll need to be aware of when it comes to your filter based on your TPP model.
(Psssst, by the way, I did a review on the Therapure TPP440 if you’re still on the fence about it.)
How Often Should I Clean the Therapure TPP240, TPP440, TPP540, & TPP640 Filter?
With these models, it’s recommended you clean the filter every 4 weeks and whenever the Clean Filter Indicator light comes on. This ensures you’re getting the most out of the filter at all times.
How To Reset Therapure TPP240/TPP440/TPP540 Clean Filter Indicator Light
After you’ve cleaned and reinserted the permanent HEPA-type filter, you need to reset the Clean Filter Indicator so that it can work properly.
To reset the Clean Filter Indicator light, press and hold the Timer & On/Off button (pictured right) for 3 seconds. The Clean Filter Indicator light should flash 3 times and then turn off, which lets you know that it’s been reset.
How To Reset Therapure TPP640 Clean Filter Indicator Light
The TPP640 has a small difference when it comes to resetting the Clean Filter Indicator.
To reset the Clean Filter Indicator light, press and hold the Ion & UV/VOC button (pictured right) for 3 seconds. The Clean Filter Indicator light will turn off meaning it’s been reset.

cannot remove the collection plates on my tpp50 despite the photo showing it.
Hi Shirley, are the plates just not coming out?
I’m not sure what the exact cause could be but you can always check the TPP50 manual here.
Excellent! Thank you so much for the info to clean my 640S… was wondering where to get new filters…
It sure where my comment went, please delete this if the other one was just being checked for spam. Excellent advice and easy to clean. Was worrying I couldn’t find filters for my 640S I bought at Costco a couple years ago…
